The basic difference between a single-mast and a twin-mast mast climbing work platform is straightforward: the working platform travels on one mast or on two masts. Choosing between them, however, requires more than counting masts.
Facade geometry, required working length, load distribution, work sequence, site layout and the manufacturer's permitted configuration must all be considered together.
What do "mast", "column" and "tower" mean here?
In this guide, mast means the vertical structural tower along which the platform travels. ALPMAKSAN also uses the term column in some product descriptions.
The P1500 belongs to the single-mast family, while the P3000 is a twin-mast platform. P1500 product page and P3000 product page.
Single-mast does not mean one-person use. Twin-mast does not mean two independent platforms. Permitted personnel, material load and platform arrangement are determined by the specific machine configuration and documentation.

A catalogue capacity must not be interpreted as permission to place that full load in every platform layout. The approved load for the actual configuration must be checked in the manufacturer's technical documentation.
Question 1: How much working deck do you actually need?
A long facade does not automatically require the longest possible platform. The important question is how much working length is needed at the same time.
For example, a building may have a long elevation while the facade team works in shorter sections. In that case, the project may be planned in stages. Conversely, if several operatives and materials must work together along one broad facade zone, a different arrangement may be appropriate.
When requesting a technical proposal, keep these dimensions separate:
- platform length,
- platform depth,
- working height.
A phrase such as "30-metre platform" is ambiguous unless the dimension is clearly defined.
Question 2: Where will the load be positioned?
Do not evaluate only the total kilograms. Record the expected personnel, tools and materials, then sketch where they will be placed on the working deck.
Two configurations with the same total load can create different structural effects if one concentrates the load in a small area and the other distributes it more evenly. The applicable load chart and permitted configuration are therefore essential.
Instead of saying only "we need three tonnes," explain how that requirement is created. Separate normal working load from temporary loading during material transfer.

Question 3: Can the site support the selected arrangement?
The equipment must be considered together with the building and site. Typical planning points include:
- base location,
- foundation or supporting surface,
- tie positions,
- balconies and projections,
- deck travel path,
- access around the machine,
- electrical supply,
- installation logistics.
These issues should be discussed during equipment selection rather than left until installation day.

Is twin-mast always the better investment?
No. A higher headline capacity or longer possible deck does not automatically make an option better for a particular project.
Compare how each alternative performs the same job:
- How many machine positions are required?
- How many project stages are needed?
- What transport and installation work is required?
- How much of the available capability will actually be used?
- Is the configuration suitable for the facade geometry?
Paying for unused capability can be inefficient, while selecting too little capability can restrict the work. The objective is fit, not simply maximum specification.

What does automatic levelling change?
The P3000 product page identifies automatic levelling as a feature. This does not replace correct configuration selection, load limits or operating rules. It should not be interpreted as permission to exceed the approved load or use an unsupported arrangement.

Does a taller building automatically require a twin-mast platform?
No. Building height alone is not enough to decide. The permitted machine installation, facade geometry, working length and site conditions must all be assessed.
Can a single-mast machine later be converted into a twin-mast machine?
That depends on the design of the specific model and the manufacturer's approved components and configurations. Such a conversion should never be assumed.
