Short answer: the cost of a construction hoist, whether rented or bought, is set by the project more than by the machine: hoist model and capacity, mast height, number of landings, rental duration, installation and height extensions, transport, power supply, operator and service. Compare quotes only when they cover the same scope, line by line.
ALPMAKSAN, an İstanbul-based manufacturer of mast climbing work platforms and construction hoists, sells and rents the H1500 and H2000 personnel and material hoists. This guide does not publish a market price, because a figure without a defined model, height and scope of supply is misleading. It explains what moves the cost and what to check in every quote.
What determines the cost of a construction hoist?
Scope determines it. Two quotes for "a hoist" can describe very different packages, so list the cost drivers before you compare totals.
- Model and capacity: a larger cage and higher rated load suit bigger crews and bulkier materials, but only pay off if the site needs them.
- Mast height: the top landing sets how many mast sections and building anchorages are needed.
- Landings: each served floor needs a landing gate and a safe landing arrangement.
- Duration: rental is usually quoted per period, so the programme length and any extension terms matter.
- Installation, height extensions and dismantling: a hoist often climbs with the building, so every extension visit counts.
- Transport and site conditions: delivery, unloading, base area and access routes.
- Power supply: the hoist needs a suitable site supply and cable route to the base.
- Operation and service: who operates the hoist, who maintains it and how fast breakdowns are answered.
What should a construction hoist quote include?
A useful quote separates these items instead of showing a single lump sum. Use the checklist below with every supplier.
| Quote item | What to check |
|---|---|
| Hoist model and quantity | Exact model, rated load and cage dimensions |
| Mast and anchorage | Number of mast sections for the top landing, number of anchorages to the building |
| Landing gates | Number of landings included, and the price basis for extra landings |
| Base and enclosure | What the supplier provides and what the site must prepare |
| Installation and handover | Installation, commissioning and handover to the site team |
| Height extensions | How many extension visits are included as the building rises |
| Dismantling and return transport | Included or quoted separately |
| Transport | Delivery and collection, unloading equipment |
| Power and cable | Required supply at the base and who provides the cable route |
| Operator and training | Who operates the hoist and what training the site team receives |
| Maintenance and breakdown response | Routine service during the hire, response time, spare parts |
| Duration and extension terms | Minimum period, extension and early return conditions |
| Documents | Manual, load information and the documents the site needs at handover |
If an item is "excluded", ask who will provide it and include that cost in your comparison. Missing items are the usual reason why the cheapest headline price ends up costing more.
How do you choose the right hoist: capacity, speed, height and cage?
Start from the site's numbers: the heaviest routine load, the longest package, the top landing and the peak number of trips. Then match them to the machine data from the manufacturer.
| ALPMAKSAN hoist | H1500 | H2000 |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 1,500 kg | 2,000 kg |
| Speed | 16 m/min | 30 m/min |
| Maximum height | 150 m | 150 m |
| Cage (W × D × H) | 1300 × 2200 × 2100 mm | 1450 × 2400 × 2100 mm |
| Anchorage distance | 6 m | 6 m |
| Mast section (dimensions, weight) | 1500 × 500 × 500 mm, 65 kg | 1500 × 650 × 650 mm, 80 kg |
| Motor power | 2 x 8 kW | 3 x 7.5 kW |
| People per trip (our estimate) | 18 | 25 |
- Capacity: check the heaviest routine load, including pallets and trolleys, against the rated load.
- Speed: one-way travel time is height ÷ speed. At 150 m, 16 m/min takes about 9.4 minutes and 30 m/min takes 5 minutes, before stops. On tall buildings with heavy shift-start traffic, speed decides queue length.
- Height: both models reach 150 m; the project's top landing sets the mast length in the quote.
- Cage: check the longest package against the cage depth, not only its weight.
The people row is our calculation from rated capacity, assuming 80 kg per person and rounding down. The permitted number of persons is the one on the machine's data plate and in the manufacturer's manual. Both models are compared on the construction hoists page.
Should you rent or buy a construction hoist?
Rent when the hoist serves one project of limited length; consider buying when you will reuse it on several projects and can manage transport, storage and maintenance. Compare both offers on the same scope and duration.
Renting turns the hoist into a project cost and usually bundles installation and service. Buying makes sense when utilisation stays high across projects. Our buy or rent guide sets out a cost model for mast climbers that applies to hoists as well, and the rental page lists what a rental quote needs.
What information speeds up a hoist quote?
Send the information that fixes the scope; a supplier can then quote a defined package instead of an estimate.
- Building height and the top landing level
- Number of floors to be served
- Heaviest routine load and largest package dimensions
- Peak crew size at shift start
- Planned duration and start date
- Site location, base area and power available at the base
- Rental, purchase or both for comparison
ALPMAKSAN serves projects in Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and exports to Romania, Georgia, Malta, Bulgaria and Iraq. After delivery, 7/24 support and the MTS Machine Tracking System keep service history and fault records for each machine.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to rent a construction hoist?
There is no single figure. Rental cost depends on the model, mast height, number of landings, duration, installation and height extensions, transport and service scope. Ask for a quote that lists each item.
What is included in a construction hoist rental?
It varies by supplier. Check whether installation, height extensions, landing gates, dismantling, transport, operator training and breakdown response are included or quoted separately.
Which is cheaper, renting or buying a construction hoist?
Renting usually suits a single project of limited duration; buying can suit repeated use across projects. Compare both on the same scope and duration.
How do I choose between the H1500 and the H2000?
Compare your heaviest load, largest package and peak trips. The H1500 carries 1,500 kg at 16 m/min; the H2000 carries 2,000 kg at 30 m/min in a larger cage, both up to 150 m.
How many people fit in an ALPMAKSAN hoist cage?
By our estimate of 80 kg per person, 18 for the H1500 and 25 for the H2000. The data plate and manual set the permitted number.
Can a mast climbing work platform replace a construction hoist?
No. A work platform gives facade access; a personnel and material hoist moves people and materials between floors. See how to move workers and materials on a high-rise site.
